What We Cover

When Your RATIONAL Falls Behind, So Does Your Kitchen

RATIONAL builds more than one kind of cooking system. The iCombi Pro and iCombi Classic are combi ovens, the iVario Pro cooks on a heated pan surface, and the iHexagon combines steam, hot air and microwave. Each one has different parts, so each one needs a different diagnosis.

Most calls don’t start with a dead unit. They start when food takes longer, batches stop matching or cleaning cycles don’t finish. We treat those changes as useful clues.

Because features vary by product family and model, we identify your exact unit before we start testing. These are the problems chefs and kitchen managers usually notice first.

  • Cooking Times Are Taking Longer

Roasts need extra time, batches finish behind schedule and the prep plan stops lining up with service.

  • Heat or Steam Has Become Inconsistent

One load comes out right and the next is dry, pale or uneven, even though nothing about the program changed.

  • Programs Stop Before Completion

A cooking path or saved program stops partway through and leaves the load half done.

  • Touch Controls Aren't Responding Correctly

Taps don’t register, the screen freezes or the unit won’t let you start a cycle.

  • Cleaning or Water-Related Functions Start Acting Differently

Cleaning won’t finish, water shows up where it shouldn’t, or the unit reports a water or drainage message.

Know What a RATIONAL Repair Costs Before We Start

Commercial repair costs depend on the equipment and what failed. We diagnose the unit first and give you the price in writing before any work begins, so you can plan around it.

Early Warnings

Small Performance Changes Can Be the First Sign of Trouble

RATIONAL equipment adjusts itself to the load and the program, so it can hide a developing fault for a while. These changes are worth reporting early.

Call (352) 562-0907
  • Preheating Takes Longer Than Before

If the unit takes noticeably longer to be ready at opening, a heating part or sensor may be losing ground.

  • Identical Loads Cook Differently

Same product, same program, different results. That usually points to heat, airflow or climate control.

  • Steam Output Feels Inconsistent

Less vapor at the door, drier vegetables or bread without its usual crust.

  • Temperature Drops During a Program

The cabinet loses heat mid-cycle and struggles to recover.

  • New Fan or Mechanical Sounds Appear

A rumble, squeal or uneven fan sound is often the first sign of wear.

  • Water or Condensation Appears Where It Shouldn't

Puddles under the unit, drips at the door or moisture near the drain connection.

  • The Same Fault Message Keeps Returning

A message that clears and comes back means the cause is still there.

Symptoms We See

RATIONAL iCombi Heating Problems That Can Slow Down Service

On an iCombi, heat is managed together with fan speed, humidity and the core probe. A heating complaint may come from a heating component, a sensor or airflow, so we test all three.

  • Oven Won't Reach the Set Temperature

We check the heating components, the safety devices protecting them and the controls calling for heat.

  • Heat Drops During Cooking

A sensor reading low, a door leaking heat or a heating component losing output can pull the temperature down mid-program.

  • Preheat Time Has Increased

Slower preheating often shows up before any fault message. We measure how the cabinet actually heats.

  • Food Cooks Unevenly Across Racks

Fan speed, fan direction and airflow through the cabinet decide how evenly heat reaches every rack.

  • Heating Stops Before the Program Ends

A safety device may be shutting heat off to protect the unit. We find out why instead of resetting it.

  • Actual Cooking Results Don't Match the Selected Settings

We compare what the unit reports with what the cabinet is actually doing.

If the unit overheats, smells like burning or trips a breaker, switch it off and call for service rather than running another batch.

Symptoms We See

Steam Performance Matters Just as Much as Heat

A combi oven depends on moisture as much as temperature. On compatible units, steam comes from a steam generator and humidity is measured and controlled throughout the cycle. Water quality has a big effect on both.

  • Steam Output Has Dropped

Restricted water supply, scale or a steam generator problem can all reduce output.

  • Steam Doesn't Begin When Expected

We check whether water is reaching the system and whether the controls are calling for steam.

  • Humidity Inside the Cabinet Feels Inconsistent

Climate control relies on sensors and venting. A bad reading can make the unit add or remove moisture at the wrong time.

  • Water Supply Interrupts Steam Operation

Low pressure, a closed valve or an overdue water treatment filter can stop steam mid-cycle.

  • Excess Condensation Develops

Venting, drainage or door sealing may not be removing moisture the way they should.

  • Steam-Based Programs Don't Finish Properly

We look at the step where the program stops and test the parts involved.

Symptoms We See

When RATIONAL Cooking Programs Stop Delivering Consistent Results

Kitchens rely on RATIONAL programs to deliver the same result every time. When they don’t, the cause is usually a system the program depends on, not the program itself.

  • Program Won't Start

A door switch, water supply problem or control fault can block the start.

  • Cooking Cycle Ends Unexpectedly

Safety devices, sensor faults or water problems can end a cycle early.

  • Selected Settings Don't Hold

We check whether the controls are keeping the settings and whether the unit can reach them.

  • Results Change Between Similar Loads

Heat, airflow or climate control may be drifting between batches.

  • Temperature or Humidity Behavior Changes Mid-Cycle

A sensor or component may be giving inconsistent readings partway through the cycle.

  • Recurring Fault Messages Interrupt Production

Take a photo each time. The pattern helps us find the cause.

Symptoms We See

RATIONAL Control Panel & Touchscreen Problems

The control panel runs programs, cleaning and settings, so a control fault can stop the whole unit. Interfaces vary by product family, and we check power and connections before blaming the screen.

  • Touchscreen Doesn't Respond

Heat, moisture, screen wear or a loose connection are common causes.

  • Display Freezes During Operation

We check the power supply and the control system before replacing anything.

  • Selected Program Won't Load

Program storage or control issues can stop a program from opening.

  • Settings Change or Reset Unexpectedly

Power interruptions or a control fault can reset stored settings.

  • Cooking Cycle Can't Be Started

The unit may be waiting on a door, water or safety signal it isn’t receiving.

  • Fault Message Keeps Returning

We read the message against your model before testing the system it points to.

Symptoms We See

Cleaning-System Problems Shouldn't Be Treated Like a Basic Oven Issue

Many iCombi units clean themselves with iCareSystem, and some tabletop units can be configured with iCareSystem AutoDose. Features vary by model and configuration. A cleaning fault usually involves water, pumps, sensors or drainage, not just the oven.

  • Automatic Cleaning Won't Start

The unit may be missing a water, door or cleaning-product signal before it will begin.

  • Cleaning Cycle Stops Before Completion

The step where it stops tells us which part of the system to check.

  • Cleaning Program Shows a Warning

We read the warning against your model and test the parts it points to.

  • Water Flow During Cleaning Seems Incorrect

Low pressure, a blocked path or a pump problem can affect cleaning water.

  • Cleaning Results Have Become Inconsistent

Residue after cleaning can point to water, pump or product supply issues.

  • The Unit Doesn't Complete the Care Cycle Properly

Care and descaling functions vary by model. We check what your unit is set up to do.

Use only the cleaning products specified for your unit and follow the manufacturer’s handling guidance. Don’t substitute other chemicals.

Symptoms We See

Water & Drainage Problems Can Affect More Than Cleaning

RATIONAL equipment uses water for steam, climate control and cleaning. A supply or drain problem can show up as a steam, program or cleaning fault.

Don’t modify water or drain connections yourself. Let us know about any recent plumbing or water treatment work when you call.

  • Water Isn't Entering the Unit Correctly

Supply valves, inlet screens, water treatment and inlet components all affect flow.

  • Steam Production Changes

Changes in water supply or quality can change steam output.

  • Drainage Has Become Slow

Debris, scale or venting problems in the drain path can slow drainage.

  • Water Appears Around the Equipment

We trace the source, whether it’s a connection, the drain or the door area.

  • Cleaning Functions Stop Working Correctly

Cleaning depends on water in and water out, so supply and drainage come first.

  • Moisture Behavior Inside the Cabinet Changes

Drainage and venting both affect how moisture leaves the cabinet.

Symptoms We See

Door, Seal & Cabinet Problems Can Change Cooking Performance

The door holds in heat and moisture, and the door switch tells the unit it’s safe to run. A small door problem can change cooking results.

  • Door Doesn't Close Correctly

Hinges, latch parts or alignment can keep the door from sealing.

  • Door Gasket Shows Wear

Tears, flat spots or hardening reduce how well the gasket seals.

  • Heat or Steam Escapes Around the Door

Escaping steam affects cooking climate and makes the unit work harder.

  • Excess Condensation Appears Near the Opening

Some moisture is normal. Steady dripping may point to a seal or drainage issue.

  • Door Switch Doesn't Register Properly

If the unit doesn’t detect the door closing, it may refuse to start or stop mid-cycle.

  • Cooking Cabinet Conditions Become Inconsistent

A leaking door can make heat and humidity harder to control.

Symptoms We See

RATIONAL iVario Problems Need a Different Diagnostic Approach

The iVario Pro isn’t a combi oven. It cooks by contact heat through the pan base and is used for boiling, frying, deep-frying and similar tasks. Its faults relate to pan heating, temperature response and water functions, so we diagnose it on its own terms.

  • Cooking Surface Isn't Heating Evenly

Uneven heat across the pan base may point to the heating system or its controls.

  • Unit Takes Too Long to Reach Temperature

We check how quickly the pan heats and whether the controls are calling for full power.

  • Cooking Program Stops Unexpectedly

Safety devices, sensor readings or control faults can end a program early.

  • Controls Aren't Responding Properly

We check power, connections and controls before replacing parts.

  • Temperature Behavior Has Become Inconsistent

A sensor reading incorrectly can make the pan overshoot or fall behind.

  • Water-Related Functions Aren't Working as Expected

On units with automatic water filling, we check supply and inlet components.

Symptoms We See

iHexagon Problems Require Model-Specific Diagnosis

The iHexagon combines steam, hot air and microwave in one unit, so it’s different from a standard combi oven. Microwave-related work involves high-voltage components and should only be handled by a trained technician.

  • Cooking Speed Has Dropped

Any of the three energy sources losing output can slow cooking. We test each separately.

  • Food Is Heating Unevenly

Uneven results may come from airflow, microwave distribution or climate control.

  • Steam Performance Has Changed

We check water supply, steam generation and humidity control.

  • Hot-Air Performance Seems Inconsistent

Fans, heating components and sensors all affect hot-air cooking.

  • Cooking Programs Don't Complete Properly

We check the step where the program stops and the system responsible for it.

  • Control or Fault Messages Interrupt Service

We read messages against the iHexagon’s own documentation, not a combi oven list.

If an iHexagon door is damaged or won’t close properly, stop using the unit until it has been checked.

What Usually Fails

What Could Be Behind a RATIONAL Equipment Problem?

Several components can cause the same symptom. These are the areas we test, depending on your product family and model. Nothing is replaced until testing confirms the cause.

  • Heating Components

They heat the cabinet on combi ovens and the pan on the iVario. We check output and the controls that switch them.

  • Temperature Sensors

Cabinet sensors and core probes report temperatures to the controls. A bad reading affects the whole cycle.

  • Fans & Air-Circulation Components

They move heat and moisture through combi oven cabinets.

  • Water Inlet Components

Valves and screens supply water for steam, climate and cleaning.

  • Drainage Systems

They remove water during cooking and cleaning. Blockages affect several functions at once.

  • Door Switches & Seals

Seals hold in heat and moisture. Switches confirm the door is closed.

  • Electronic Controls

We test them after checking the power and signals they receive.

  • Steam & Humidity-Control Components

On compatible units, they produce steam and control moisture in the cabinet.

Fault Messages Help, But the Exact RATIONAL Model Matters

RATIONAL keeps service information specific to each product family, and electrical and gas work is meant for trained service staff. A fault message is a starting point, not a diagnosis.

What a Fault Message Can Indicate

It usually points to a system, such as heating, water, steam or cleaning, rather than a specific failed part.

Why Fault Information Can Be Model-Specific

An iCombi, iVario and iHexagon are different platforms, so the same message can mean different things.

When Restarting May Clear a Temporary Issue

After a power interruption, one restart may clear a message. If it comes back, stop resetting and call.

When a Recurring Fault Needs Further Diagnosis

A message that keeps returning means the cause is still there and needs testing.

Why Cooking Symptoms Matter Alongside the Message

Tell us what the food and unit were doing when the message appeared. It often matters as much as the message.

A Few Minutes Now

Know Your RATIONAL Model Before Scheduling Service

Having these details ready when you call helps us prepare for the visit.

I used Ramsom Appliances to install a dishwasher that I was gifted. My installer, Rafael, was knowledgeable, professional, and overall a pleasure to have for this job. The dishwasher is level, he made sure the water line was installed at the right angle to prevent a backup in the flow of things. The attachment to the garbage disposal was perfect with no leaks afterwards. The front office staff, Ms. Vanessa was also very nice and professional and was able to schedule my service appointment for the next day, which I was very happy about that. I highly recommend RAMSON Appliances. I will use them in the future.

  • Great experience. Scheduling appointment was easy. They gave a heads up via text when they were on the way and they were on time...answered all my questions and gave me a whole education about what was wrong with my refrigerator and how much parts and labor would cost to get to the bottom of it. There were no sleazy tactics to just get my money. Straight up, honest service. I will call again when needed and refer to anyone who needs appliance service.

  • Steve Tollerton

Easy to contact, quick appointments. The refrigerator lights fix was more difficult than anticipated and took 2 service calls but the tech followed up quickly and i was only billed for the additional parts, not 2 calls. This is the 3rd time we’ve used Ramson and still very satisfied.
